I have an ageing parent and recently googled mobile dental clinic SoCal so that I could learn what our option was for dental care. I was unsure about what I was going to find and was pleasantly delighted to find a mobile dental clinic that visits old and homes and care facilities. I was even more pleasantly surprised to find that there was a mobile dentist who travelled to my mom’s old age facility. I did two things immediately. I called the mobile dentist to find out how it all works. And then I called my mom’s care facility to tell them about the service. I put the two of them in contact with one another and the rest is history.
How mobile dentistry works
When I called the mobile dental clinic I got the receptionist in their office. She explained to me how the whole thing works. The dentist has a normal dental practice. They have people who make appointments and come in for their dental care. But the dentist who works with old people all the time, started realizing how difficult it was for some of this patients to get in and see him. And so he had the idea of just once a week, doing home calls.
Of course as a dentist you need equipment to do home calls. It’s not like being a doctor who does home calls. You need the dentist chair, stool, mirrors, tray for the equipment and so on. And so he came up with the idea of a mobile dental van. He equipped his van fully, so much so that it looks like a second dental practice, and once a week he closes his regular practice and does ‘house calls’ to old aged homes or care facilities.
Dental appointment for my mom
I found out that I could make the dental appointment for my mother, and she could have made it on her own too, but that the old aged home could also make the appointment. It is in the interest of the dentist to have not just one appointment with one person at the care facility, but to have many. It works on an appointment basis. So my mom’s appointment was at 10 am. The person after her was at 11 am, and the one after him was at 12 am. This works very similarly to a usual dental practice but the appointments are more staggered so that the dentist can do his work without the patient needing a quick follow up appointment. It is all about reducing stress to old people.
What kind of dental work is offered
A mobile dentist offers all kinds of dental work although much of it is rewired to the needs of older people, dentures, implants, tooth extractions and so on.
