The flow rate is the effectiveness of the pump. It refers to the time it takes for your pump to pump a specific amount of water usually measured in litres per minute. In case you want to use the pump for either farms or job sites, you need to buy a pump that has the ability to pump at least 2500 L/min. on the other hand, pumps that have a flow rate of between 100 and 200 litres per minute are suitable for household use.
Consider the size of the inlet
In most cases, pumps have an inlet size of between 1 inch and 6 inches but in some cases, they can be larger. Centrifugal pumps also operate the same way. This means that they suck in water from the pump’s inlet and discharge it through the pump’s outlet valve. Sometimes, when the size of the inlet valve is bigger, the more the volume of water the pump can pump out and the faster the pump will do the job.
Pressure and maximum head
Another thing to consider when choosing water pumps for sale is the head of the water pump. This refers to the longest distance the pump will pump water. For instance, if you purchase a pump that has a maximum head of let’s say 60 meters, if you pump water to levels higher than 60 meters then the flow rate of the pump will be zero. The type of pump you pick should have a maximum head that is higher than the height you want to pump the water.
Quality
When choosing the quality of the pump, you should consider the manufacturer and the brand of the pump. The motor and the engine can also tell you the quality of the pump. Make sure you do the necessary surveys and research on how the quality of the pump should be. You can also research available pump shops in your area and ask around for recommendations. Some pumps are cheap but very expensive to maintain.
The type of water being pumped
Another factor to consider when choosing a pump is the type of water you are going to pump. Firefighting pumps are different from transfer pumps. Some pumps are not meant to transport chemicals and other corrosive elements. Also, some pumps are not meant to pump water that has got solid particles in it. Before you buy a water pump, you should ensure that the pump can pump the type of water you want to pump. Saltwater can be corrosive so if you are pumping salty water from a borehole, make sure that the pump can withstand the corrosive nature of saltwater.
